Tiesha's Story
I remember asking myself, “How am I going to do this alone?” Two Small Coins helped me see that I do have a future—that I’m not alone. My name is Tiesha Gibson Rock, and I lost my husband seven and a half years ago. He was an amazing friend, an amazing husband—an amazing person. He was diagnosed with bladder cancer in February 2015. It was a shock to both of us. In 2016, he went into remission. In 2017, the cancer returned with a vengeance. He passed away on December 28. It all happened so fast.
They get it. Losing your spouse is different from any other loss—not to minimize anyone else’s grief, but when you lose your life partner, it’s a different kind of devastation. Other widows understand. They don’t compare or dismiss. I was grateful to find an organization that was close, local, and accessible—where I can reach out to Aaron whenever I need to.
We’re all in different places, and no one judges anyone else’s journey. We can speak freely about what we want and what we need. The minute I walked in and sat down, I knew they were my people. That’s what Two Small Coins is for me.
